REFLECTION ON ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR INCLUSIVE CLASSROOMS

Inclusive education highlights that all children- irrespective of their abilities- are entitled to equal chances to learn. in this reflection, i examine two assistive tools; TEXT-TO-SPEECH TOOLS and ALTERNATIVE KEYBOARDS. These tools not only aid learners with special needs but also foster equity, independence, and active involvement in regular classes.

TEXT-TO-SPEECH (TTS) TOOLS;

TEXT-TO-SPEECH (TTS) is a digital tool that converts written texts into oral speech, enhancing accessibility for individuals with visual impairments, reading challenges, or learning disabilities. It is commonly utilized for the ease of multitasking, like listening to emails or articles while moving. TTS tools utilize AI and speech synthesis to generate voices that sound natural in various languages and accents. This technology is embedded in numerous devices and applications, such as smartphones, computers, and e-readers. well known examples of TEXT-TO-SPECCH applications or tools are google TEXT-TO-SPEECH, NaturalReader, and Read&Write by TextHelp, catering to both educational and personal needs.

These digital resources greatly assist and aid various learners in educational environments and practices. TEXT-TO-SPEECH (TTS) tools improve the learning process by enabling students to see and hear the text simultaneously, fostering a vibrant multisensory reading atmosphere. This combined approach enhances word recognition abilities, boosts attention span, and aids memory retention. It allows students to concentrate on grasping the content instead of allocating excessive energy to deciphering single words. This is particularly advantageous for students with learning disabilities like dyslexia, along with English language learners who might struggle with reading. This promotes a more inclusive classroom environment where varied learners feel appreciated, empowered and assisted in achieving their academic objectives.

In the future, I intend to incorporate TTS tools such as Read&Write Chrome extension into literacy instruction in my upcoming classroom. This integration seeks to boister reading fluency, improve understanding, and encourage independent learning in students. by enabling students to hear written content while following text, TTS can enhance decoding abilities and boost pronunciation. It additionally assists students who might find conventional reading techniques challenging by offering an alternative, approachable means to interact with material. Furthermore, utilizing TTS can enhance student's confidence and motivation, promoting them to engage with texts more openly. Integrating these tools supports inclusive teaching methods and guarantees that all students can thrive, no matter their learning needs or abilities. This method not only aids varied learners but also enhances the entire classroom learning atmosphere.
